Ghanaians React After Police Arrested Ernesto Yeboah For Leading #BlackLivesMatter Vigil In Accra
The leader of the Economic Fighters League, Ernesto Yeboah, was arrested on Saturday night for leading a vigil at the Black Star Square to solidarize with African-Americans after the killing of George Floyd and to express concerns about racial inequality everywhere in the world.
According to reports, he was arrested because the vigil was not authorized by the police before they embarked on it. The law warrants that the police are notified of such activities 5 days hence before it is being carried out and Ernesto did no such thing.

But Ernesto insisted that his outfit notified the police 6 days prior to their planned vigil at the Black Stars square. So if the police tell us that they have not been notified in accordance with the public order act, it is a lie.

Reports point out that armed police and military personnel stormed the vigil grounds at the Black Star Square and whisked Mr. Yeboah away to either the Osu or Ministries police station just a few minutes into the event.
There were also protesters with demanding justice for Ahmed Suale, the 3 Takoradi girls, JB Danquah, and other Ghanaians who died unjustly.
Reacting to the occurrence, some Ghanaians are of the belief that Ernesto and his group should not be out there protesting at the time we are battling a pandemic. But others also argued that there is pandemic but protests against racial injustice are going on in America and elsewhere in the world and as a matter of fact, the government has lifted the ban on social gathering for churches and mosques – how is a vigil different from those?
