Akufo-Addo is not in power to fight against galamsey – Nurudeen Abass

Ashanti Regional Communications Officer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Abass Nurudeen has urged Ghanaians to stop hoping that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is committed to fighting illegal mining popularly known as ‘galamsey’.

According to him, the galamsey investigative piece gathered by Anas Aremeyaw Anas should have been the first point of call for the President to fight illegal mining if he had the nation at heart and was serious about fighting the menace.

“All indications show that President Akufo-Addo never came into power to fight galamsey as he claims, but to rather shield foreigners and his people alone to benefit from the unlawful activity,” he revealed.

Elaborating on the Senior Minister, Yaw Osafo-Maafo’s comments made concerning the Chinese illegal miner ‘queen’ En Huang popularly known as Aisha deportation, Nurudeen Abass stated that President Akufo-Addo is never worried about the welfare of his citizens but interested in foreign relations.

“ . . the procedure to Aisha Huang’s deportation shows the mentality of the Akufo-Addo government, which shows that they don’t have any good conscience for Ghanaians,” he added.

Background

At a recent town hall meeting organized by Ghana’s government abroad, Mr Osafo-Maafo said: “We have a very good relationship with China. Today, the main company that is helping develop the infrastructure system in Ghana is Sinohydro, Chinese Company. It is the one that is going to help process our bauxite and provide about two billion dollars to us.”

“So, when there are these kinds of arrangements, there are other things behind the scenes. Putting that lady (Aisha) in jail in Ghana is not going to solve your economic problems. It is not going to make you happy or me happy, that’s not important, the most important thing is that she has been deported from Ghana…”

“…I am saying that there are many other things beyond what we see in these matters and everybody is wide awake, the most important thing is that we have banned this, we have established regulations and we are protecting our environment. That is far more important than one Chinese woman who has been deported out of the country” he added.
