2019 AFCON: Black Stars players to receive $80,000 appearance fees

Black Stars players will receive an appearance fee of $80,000 at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt this summer, GHANAsoccernet.com can report.

Each member of the 23-man squad will be smiling to the bank after reaching an agreement with the country’s Sports Ministry.

The West African nation has moved to avert the 2014 FIFA World Cup fiasco which brought global shame to the country.

The former government was forced to fly $3million to players in Brazil amid threat of a boycott.

The government has agreed to pay the players $8,000 appearance fee for the continent’s flagship football tournament which kick start on June 21 in Egypt.

Remuneration for the Black Stars players came under scrutiny after the 2014 FIFA World Cup finals in Brazil where players demanded being paid their appearance fees before their final Group match against Portugal.

Past ministers adopted a ‘take-it-or-leave-it’ approach and that didn’t yield any dividends.
