Why Has Ghana Accepted the COVID-19 Vaccine That Was Rejected By Other Countries?

The refusal by Germany to accept one of the covid-19 vaccines(Astro-Zeneca) for fear of deleterious potential side effects raises concern.

Among these concerns is the possibility that European nations like Germany may transfer their rejected covid-19 vaccines to Africa in order to fulfill their covax -19 obligations.

It will also help restore their ebbing soft power in Africa and avoid total loss of money spent to buy the vaccines in the first place.

With this in mind, Ghana must set up a protocol to exclude the use of any rejected vaccines in the covax programe under WHO.

Also, Ghana must receive, through bi-lateral arrangements, any rejected vaccines.

It is important that Ghana resort to vaccines that have the highest proven efficacy (Pfizer) and also do not require extreme cold conditions in their cold chain.

The desperate situation in Europe and the USA suggests we should not rely on their charity. We should rather take steps to make access to covid-19 vaccinations a high-order priority in our expenditure. We must go beyond the talk into action.

I urge the President to move more rapidly on this issue because our situation in Ghana is looking more grave with each passing day.
