Kotoko chief assures ‘unhappy’ CK Akonnor of massive support

Asante Kotoko Executive Chairman Dr. Kwame Kyei has assured coach Charles Kwablan Akonnor of his unflinching support amid claims of the tactician not happy at the club.

Reports have been rife in the media that Akonnor contemplated resigning hours before the 3-0 victory over Nkana due to interference from management and the fans.

However, Dr. Kyei believes Akonnor is on the right path and wants him at the club on a long-term.

“I don’t have time to listen to gossips whilst managing Asante Kotoko. I want to see the club at a different level,” Dr. Kyei told Asempa FM

“CK Akonnor has my support and I will continue to back him to make Kotoko great again. His position at the club is rock solid.

“He is one of the best coaches in Ghana. Let’s all keep supporting him and the players.”

Akonnor has been in charge of Kotoko for less than six months. He has guided them to the group stage of the Caf Confederation Cup for the first time in 11 years and they’re close to qualifying for the knockout stage.

The Porcupine Warriors lie second in Group C after four games with just a point behind leaders Al Hilal, who have seven points.

Kotoko will face the Sudanese side on Sunday in Kumasi.
