NSS Regional Boss is Unsuitable To Hold Position: Amb. Daniel Agyekum Iterates
Daniel Ohene Agyekum, a former ambassador of Ghana to the United States, has called Alex Opoku Mensah’s conduct as the director of the Ashanti Regional National Service Scheme (NSS) “bizarre and unethical of a public servant” and has called for his dismissal.
After his daughter, a house officer who was called back to the hospital to finish some administrative work that she had abandoned after her shift, the NSS Director Opoku Mensah invaded the Manhyia District Hospital in the style of Rambo and ran down nurses working there.
In a leaked audio recording, the NSS was heard showering insults on the nurses over there just because they called back his daughter to finish up her work.
However, in response to the news on Ultimate 106.9 FM, Ambassador Agyekum has questioned why a public official would shower insults on someone in that way, especially if that person doesn’t even work for his organization.
Below were his words:
“I felt livid when I listened to the audio, I felt like jumping and hitting the roof. With all due respect to whoever Opoku Mensah is, this behavior is unethical at all levels, how can a public official or leader speak in such a despicable manner”
“ The Nursing profession is a noble one, and why should someone not within the profession go and reign insults on another person in another institutions, somebody’s daughter too just like he was protective of her daughter , how on earth should this happen”
“This guy shouldn’t be in the system, he must resign…he is not fit to be around. If he has sense he should even leave before he is sacked or asked to leave office” he highlighted.
Using the occasion, Ambassador Agyekum also counseled public and civil workers not to exalt themselves above the people they serve.
“You see people miss the point when they are in a position of power and authority. You must use the position to serve and not to push or run people down just like that.
People need to learn, from such situations that as leaders you ought to be right in the private and public settings”, the former ambassador iterated.
