JUST IN: TUTAG Calls Off Strike

The strike call made by the Technical University Teachers Association of Ghana (TUTAG) on November 18 has been put on hold indefinitely.
The group said that the indefinite suspension came after the government and the group’s demands had been settled upon a set of terms.
As a matter of fact, all 10 Public Technical Universities were advised to start back up today in a statement released in Accra on Saturday.
“Following the conclusion of negotiations on internally generated fund-related conditions of service, off-campus and vehicle maintenance allowances, and pursuant to the memorandum of agreement signed between the government team and the labor unions (TUTAG, UTAG, GAUA, and TEWU).
We announce the suspension of the strike declared on Monday, November 18, 2022. The suspension takes immediate effect,” it stated.
To that effect, TUTAG thanked the National Labour Commission for assisting them in coming to a compromise about their demands.
Background
On November 18, TUTAG announced an indefinite strike action in response to demands for changes to the negotiated internally produced fund, the car maintenance allowance, and other terms of employment.
TUTAG claimed that the Ghana Tertiary Education Council and other government organizations have not given their demand any serious consideration in a letter announcing the strike.
“TUTAG views the inaction by these agencies as an indication that the concerns expressed in our letter have not been treated with the seriousness they deserve,” it said.
