Samuel Ofori Receives Award For Best Foreign Player In Tajikistan

Young Ghanaian defender Samuel Ofori, who defended FC Ravshan Kulob to a historic AFC Cup qualification, is enjoying a tremendously successful first season in Tajikistan after being awarded the best foreign player.

In the 2022 Vysshaya League season, 23-year-old Ofori represented Kulob in 20 of 22 league games, missing the other two solely due to a suspension for amassing too many yellow cards.

He received numerous man-of-the-match awards along the way.

The 6’1″ defender’s aerial skills and defensive presence ultimately helped Kulob finish second in the Asian nation, only one point ahead of the teams that finished third and fourth, FK Khujand and FK Khatlon, respectively. Samuel Ofori Receives Award For Best Foreign Player In Tajikistan

In addition to helping Rashvan Kulob earn a playoff position in the AFC Cup, Asia’s second-tier club competition, it also enabled Samuel Ofori to surpass nearly 70 international players and become the greatest player in the Tajik league in 2022.

Three Ghanaians who all performed admirably in the Vasshya 2022 campaign squared off in a match against top players from around the world, including Glib Grachov of Ukraine, Gonzalo Ritacco of Argentina, Kosmynin of Belarus, Samandor Ochilov of Uzbekistan, Sergey Garanzha of Russia, Tony Bikital of Cameroon, and Innocent Kouassi of Ivory Coast.

Iddris Aminu, a goalkeeper for fourth-place FC Khatlon, and Godson Quaye, a striker for winners Istiklol Dushanbe, both earned spots in the top three for best foreign player, but it was defender Samuel Ofori who received the nod and became the first African player to win the award.

Meanwhile, Ofori, who has returned for vacation in Ghana iterated, “I feel great because I worked really hard for this and it makes me so happy to be recognized considering the many good foreign players in the league.

Hard work pays so I’m going to work even harder to achieve my dreams,” the Ghanaian defender added.
