Onana Delays AFCON Duty for FA Cup and Spurs Battles

In a strategic move, Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana has reached an agreement with the Cameroun Football Federation to postpone his departure for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) until after the Premier League match against Tottenham Hotspurs.

This decision comes as a relief for Manchester United fans, ensuring Onana’s availability for the FA Cup third-round tie against Wigan Athletic and the crucial league clash with Spurs at Old Trafford.

The 27-year-old shot-stopper, who was named in Cameroon’s 27-man AFCON squad last Thursday, will join his national team in Ivory Coast after fulfilling his commitments with Manchester United.

This arrangement allows Onana to contribute to the Red Devils’ campaign in both domestic competitions before focusing on the continental challenge.

Cameroun’s AFCON Group C journey kicks off on January 15 against Guinea at the Charles-Konan-Banny Stadium in Yamoussoukro.

Onana’s delayed departure ensures his participation in the opening match and provides crucial support for Cameroon’s quest for success in the tournament.

The agreement highlights the collaboration between Manchester United and the Cameroun Football Federation, emphasizing the understanding between the club and the player’s national team commitments.

Onana’s availability for the FA Cup and Premier League fixtures underscores his significance in Manchester United’s pursuit of silverware this season.
