Accra Sports Stadium to Close for Christmas Festivities, Affects Ghana Premier League Clubs

The National Sports Authority (NSA) has issued a directive for the closure of the Accra Sports Stadium during the Christmas festivities, impacting three Ghana Premier League clubs.

In a letter signed by Professor Peter Twumasi, the Director General of the NSA, the affected clubs—Hearts of Oak, Great Olympics, and Accra Lions—are advised to seek alternative venues for their home games in December.

The decision to close down the stadium next month was communicated to the clubs, the Ghana Football Association, and the Ministry of Youth and Sports.

According to the statement released by the NSA, the closure is part of the arrangements for the upcoming Christmas festivities.

As the Accra Sports Stadium takes a hiatus, the El-wak Stadium emerges as the designated match center within Accra. Currently serving as the home ground for Premier League side Legon Cities, the El-wak Stadium will host the affected clubs’ home games during the temporary closure of the Accra Sports Stadium.

This move raises questions about the impact on the affected clubs’ schedules, fan attendance, and overall league dynamics. Clubs will now need to adapt to the change in venue and ensure a smooth transition for players and supporters alike.
