Ghanaians Should Get Ready to Experience Severe Hardship and Suffering Under Akufo-Addo – Haruna Iddrisu forewarns

Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu is forewarning Ghanaians to get ready to experience severe hardship under the second term of President Akufo-Addo.

According to him, the 2021 budget statement presented by Majority Lader, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu in parliament yesterday has no hope for Ghanaians especially when new taxes have been introduced.

Speaking in an interview with Citi News, Haruna Iddrissu said the severity of the suffering and hardship Ghanaians will go through the kind courtesy of the new taxes will be unprecedented.

“There is no hope. Ghanaians must brace themselves up for increased hardship and increased suffering because it means that there will be petro hikes with ESLA that they described a few years ago as a nuisance tax. But they are back to it as a credible source of revenue which is a lack of principle.”

“The workers of Ghana will be disappointed because the minimum wage has not been determined, public sector wage has not been determined and it is the first time this has happened since 2014. So it means that compensation is likely to erode any gains that we are likely to make but at least now debt to GDP is 276%.”
