The deadlocks hairstyle originated in Africa and is worn by various tribes in Africa. It is not restricted to Jamaica or rastafarians but is even worn by lots of people in Ghana.

Locks aim to resemble the lion’s mane, which is a symbol of power, courage, and strength.

Locks are visually similar to dreads; however, they are often more polished due to constant twisting, braiding, coiling, or palm rolling. Locks typically go through different stages of locking that result in a polished look – the second stage (buttoning) gives Locks their unique look. The term Locks derives from “dreadlocks ” but represents a neater and more intentionally maintained version of the same style.

Over generations, dreadlocks became not only culturally unacceptable but actively antagonised, especially among men, so much so that a man could lose access to career opportunities or, in some extreme cases, his life due to his appearance.

Our generation has witnessed numerous stages and positioned well with lifestyle. One unique, talented, and enthusiastic personality who has taken upon herself to carry on the mantle, maintaining standards and professionalism in all her dealings with dreadlocks, is Chelsea-Abigail Owusu Ansah

Chelsea Abigail Owusu-Ansah has been a locktician for the past 7 years and owns YOGA’S LOCKS. She works on braids and natural hair as well, with a staff strength of about six (6).

Located at Ashongman Estates, Accra – Ghana, she has trained and inspired lots of beauticians in Ghana.

To really prove a point and establish her credentials and professional knowledge of dreadlocks, Chelsea Abigail Owusu-Ansah dared the world by partaking and winning the Guinness World Record competition to become the world’s FASTEST LOCKS RECORD HOLDER. YES! 27 heads locked in less than 8 hours. This is not just a win for herself but for Ghana as a whole.

The brand visibility she has brought to Ghana is enormous and needs much more attention. She has equally positioned Ghana on the world map and made history. Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts is heavily involved here by selling the Ghana brand through the arts.

ENTERPRENUESHIP

Chelsea Abigail Owusu-Ansah has used his platform to train and inspire lots of beauticians in Ghana. However, she equally seeks a bigger platform to train young talents who need on-hand jobs, open their jobs, and give birth to their dreams of being a beautician one day and equally create employment for the youth and empower them to build a skill for themselves. She also pushes the agenda to clear the misconception people have about dreadlocks.

By all standards, Chelsea Abigail Owusu-Ansah has made Ghana proud and sold the Ghana brand. The nation must tap into her talent and seek her to train, mentor, and empower young talents and create employment.

The country can not afford to see us waste Chelsea Abigail Owusu Ansah’s potential before we take action.

I urge Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), National Commission On Culture (NCC), Blackstar experience Secretariat with Mr Rex Omar, Creative Arts Agency (CAA), Youth Employment Agency (YEA) and National Entrepreneurship and innovation Programme (NEIP) to empower Chelsea Abigail Owusu-Ansah to establish and beyond open doors for youth and sell brand Ghana through Creative Arts Tourism and Culture.
