Ministry of Education Set To Open Creative Arts SHS In Kumasi

The country’s first senior high school for the creative arts will open in the Ashanti Region next year, according to statements from the Ministry of Education.

According to the Ministry, the establishment’s purpose is to aid in the growth of the nation’s lucrative creative arts sector, which brings in millions of Ghana Cedis each year.

The Ghana Science and Technology Explorer Prize (GSTEP) and Exhibition Awards ceremony was held in Accra, and the Education Minister, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, spoke there.

He explained that since science and creative arts classes have recently merged, schools will now offer science courses and have 12 science labs to improve practicals.

Moreover, he stated:

“Next year, we open our first Creative Arts secondary school which will bring together children across the country to excel in the Creative Arts field.

You know how the Creative Arts and Science are merging, so consequently, the Creative Arts school to be established in Kumasi will have 12 Science labs and the students are going to do science.

I am sure you may have heard of the science fun movies and our movies will also be science-based,” he added.

In December 2019, President Akufo-Addo cut the first sod for Kwadaso, in the Ashanti Region, to build the first Creative Arts SHS.

The president announced in his address to the nation in March 2022 that the school was 70% completed.

A studio laboratory, classroom blocks, two dorms for boys and girls each with a capacity of 500 students, an administration building, and other facilities were all under construction.

Once the school is completed, the creative arts industry will be taught and developed. In order to gather money for the school’s completion and industry growth, President Akufo-Addo also established the Creative Arts Fund.
