Massive Turnout Expected as Over 66,000 Candidates Gear Up for District-Level Elections

In a monumental display of democratic fervor, the Electoral Commission (EC) has declared its state of readiness for the district-level elections scheduled to take place on Tuesday, December 19.
A staggering 66,257 candidates are set to compete for assembly and unit committee positions, comprising 18,755 assembly member candidates and 47,502 unit committee member candidates. The electoral battlefield spans 6,215 electoral areas distributed across 216 metropolitan, municipal, and district assemblies.
Dr. Sereboe Quarcoo, the Director of Electoral Services at the EC, has affirmed the commission’s comprehensive preparations for the upcoming electoral process.
In a statement, Dr. Quarcoo assured the public that all necessary materials, except for ballot papers, are already in place.
He emphasized the commission’s commitment to a smooth and well-organized election day, stating, “When we are going, we don’t go with partial delivery; we go with full delivery, so we are not expecting to have shortages. All things being equal, in case there are shortages, the district office will respond to such shortages.”
As the nation eagerly anticipates the democratic spectacle, the EC’s assurance of logistical readiness and the unprecedented number of candidates point towards an engaging and closely watched electoral event.
With only days remaining until the polling stations open, citizens are gearing up for a significant exercise in civic participation and decision-making, marking a crucial moment in the country’s democratic journey.
