Ghana SHTS and Adoe Basic School Clinch Top Honors in Farming Awards 2023

In a bid to reignite passion for agriculture among the youth, the School Farm of the Year 2023 competition, organized by the Kosmos Innovation Center in collaboration with the Blue Skies Foundation, has celebrated outstanding achievements in farming by schools across Ghana.

This year’s theme, “We Grow The Future,” underscores the importance of integrating technology, innovation, agribusiness, and agro-technology into the fabric of agricultural practices.

Out of more than 200 schools spanning 11 regions in Ghana, Ghana SHTS in Tamale and the Adoe Basic School in Gomoa emerged triumphant in the senior high and junior high school categories, respectively. The accolade comes with a range of prizes, from desktop computers and tablets to fertilizers and knapsack sprayers.

He highlighted the importance of supporting and encouraging young individuals to pursue agriculture, stating, “At the end of the day, the food they will produce are the foods you will be buying at the market. Agriculture is as important as any other sector of the economy.”

Nana Yaw Sarpong Serebour, the National Best Farmer of 2022, encouraged participating schools to extend the impact of their acquired knowledge to their communities. “Don’t let what you’ve learned end here. Start first at home and produce healthy natural foods for yourselves and your family. Teach your immediate communities the benefits of agriculture,” he urged.

Revd. Dr. John Menu, the Regional Director for the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, shed light on economically viable areas in agriculture.

The School Farm of the Year competition serves as a catalyst for youth engagement in agriculture, promoting sustainable practices and technological integration.

As Ghana celebrates the achievements of Ghana SHTS and Adoe Basic School, the hope is that these successes will inspire a new generation of farmers, fostering a robust and self-sufficient agricultural sector.
