Popular Ghanaian dancehall artiste, Charles Nii Armah Mensah Jr., widely known as Shatta Wale, has been detained by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) as part of an ongoing investigation into his luxury yellow Lamborghini Urus.

In a statement issued by his management team, Shatta Wale was said to have voluntarily reported to the EOCO headquarters on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, accompanied by his legal counsel, Cephas Biyuo.

His management has appealed to fans, popularly referred to as the “SM Family,” to remain calm and avoid unnecessary speculation, stressing that discussions with EOCO officials are ongoing and efforts are being made to secure his release.

This development comes weeks after the Lamborghini was seized by EOCO in collaboration with the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Investigators alleged that the vehicle was stolen abroad and tied to the proceeds of a major fraudulent scheme.

The seizure was carried out under the Economic and Organised Crime Office Act, 2010 (Act 804) and the Mutual Legal Assistance Act, 2010 (Act 807). These laws empower EOCO to confiscate and investigate property linked to criminal activity, even when the offences are committed outside Ghana.

The matter has since sparked intense debate on social media, with some of Shatta Wale’s fans defending him while others question the source of his recent acquisitions.

Shatta Wale’s lawyers and management team are expected to return to the EOCO offices in the coming days as the investigation continues.
