In the midst of escalating hostilities between Israel and Hamas, the situation in Gaza has taken a dire turn, with hospitals struggling to cope with the influx of casualties.
Gemma Connell, a representative of the UN humanitarian agency OCHA, visited the Al-Aqsa hospital in central Gaza on Monday and reported scenes of “absolute carnage.”
As hospitals face an increasing number of severely injured patients, the Al-Aqsa Hospital in Deir al-Balah is reportedly “absolutely overloaded,” hindering the treatment of those in critical condition.
Israel’s Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, has pledged to intensify the fight against Hamas, emphasizing that the military campaign in Gaza is far from over.
Despite calls from the US Secretary of State Antony Blinken to lower the intensity of strikes, Netanyahu remains resolute in his commitment to the ongoing military operation.

The UN agency for Palestinian refugees UNRWA estimates that around 150,000 people in central Gaza have received evacuation orders from the Israeli military.
Gemma Connell, in an interview with the BBC World Service, painted a grim picture of the situation at Al-Aqsa Hospital, stating, “there is no safe place in Gaza.”
She described a heartbreaking scene of a nine-year-old boy with a devastating head injury who tragically passed away during her visit.
The conflict, which began on October 7, continues to escalate, with the Hamas-run health ministry reporting at least 70 people killed in a recent Israeli strike on the Al-Maghazi refugee camp in central Gaza.

The toll on civilians is staggering, with over 20,000 Palestinians reportedly killed in Israeli bombardments, the majority being children and women.
As international pressure for a ceasefire mounts, Egypt has reportedly proposed a plan that includes the phased release of Israeli hostages and Palestinian prisoners, potentially leading to a suspension of Israel’s offensive.
However, both Israel and Hamas have thus far resisted calls for a cessation of hostilities.
