AFCON Update: Mohamed Salah Injured, Heads for Rehab at Liverpool

Liverpool star Mohamed Salah is set to return to the club for treatment on the leg injury he sustained during Egypt’s 2-2 draw with Ghana at the Africa Cup of Nations.
The injury occurred on Thursday during a crucial Group B match, raising concerns about Salah’s participation in the tournament.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp expressed his thoughts on Salah’s situation on Sunday, stating, “It makes sense that he’s doing the rehab with us.”
However, Klopp had initially suggested that the hamstring injury might be severe, given Salah’s rare instances of needing to be substituted.
Despite the setback, Egypt remains optimistic about Salah’s potential return for a semi-final if they progress in the tournament. Egypt faces Cape Verde on Monday, with a win securing their spot in the knockout stage.
The Egyptian Football Association initially indicated that Salah would only return to the tournament if Egypt advanced to the quarter-finals on February 2 or 3.
Klopp, when asked about Salah’s potential return, responded, “I would say if Egypt qualifies for the final, if he’s fit before the final, then probably yes.”
Salah, who helped Egypt reach the final in the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations, is determined to win the title. He played a crucial role in Egypt’s 2-2 draw with Mozambique, scoring a late penalty to avoid an embarrassing opening defeat.
Speaking about his aspirations, Salah said, “I would love to win it, absolutely. It will happen somehow – that is what I believe. Whatever I believe, I achieve – so sooner or later, it will happen.”
As Salah undergoes treatment, Egyptian fans anxiously await updates on his recovery, with the hope that the star forward can make a grand return and contribute to Egypt’s quest for the Africa Cup of Nations title.
