2021 District League Table: Northern Region Ranked 15th

The Northern Region received a score of 58.05 percent, placing it as the 15th-best-performing region in the 2021 District League Table (DLT).
The region outperformed all but the Savannah Region, despite the fact that three of its districts were listed among the DLT’s bottom ten performing Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs).
Among the districts were Nanumba South, Tatali-Sangule, and Nanton, which came in 258th, 260th, and 261st respectively.
Greater Accra received a score of 72.37 percent in the DLT, while the Tema Metropolitan Assembly received a score of 81.75 percent, making it the best-performing region and assembly respectively.
The National Development Planning Commission (NDPC), in cooperation with the United Nations Children’s Fund, released the DLT report, which included these, at a forum in Tamale.
In light of this, stakeholders from the various MMDAs in the region were brought together at the forum to discuss their performances.
The 2022 DLT was also unveiled during the forum to start planning for the year’s report.
The study, which acts as a tool for monitoring national growth and emphasizing district performance, intended to give evidence and a foundation for a just distribution of resources and social investments in order to lessen inequities among MMDAs.
22 metrics from several industries, including governance, energy, water, sanitation, and nutrition, were used to determine the ranking.
The analysis of each sector revealed differences between the MMDAs in the nation, according to Mr. Isaac Kwasi Ewoeh, Principal Planning Analyst at NDPC, who presented the report at the forum.
The Ministry of Finance and the NDPC, he said, should make sure that national resources are allocated using the proper tools to support MMDAs with low rankings, among the report’s other recommendations.
According to Dr. Sulemana Abudulai, Northern Regional Commissioner of the NDPC, the DLT had a larger goal of inspiring government action to ensure better prioritization while fostering healthy competition among MMDAs to encourage good performances.
To that effect, he claimed that the DLT was institutionalized for the purpose of enhancing data-based planning and outcomes from the execution of district medium-term plans.
