VGMA 2019 – Predicted Winners Full List

We bring you our second predictions about winners of the 2019 VGMAs. Our first list predicted that Shatta Wale will take the Artist of the Year award. If not Wale, then it’s definitely Kuami Eugene. For Highlife Song of the Year Category, Shatta Wale’s My Level was also in the lead. Hiplife Song of the Year: Yaa Pono was predicted to emerge winner in that category with his Obiaa Wone Master song. We are sure that it’s either Yaa Pono or Stonebwoy’s Kpoo keke that will take take this award.
The following are the rest of the predictions.
Afropop Song of the Year
Our one and only talented singer, Wendy Shay is very well deserving of this award. Her debut single Uber Driver was a breakthrough song which started the year for music lovers like us. Though, packed with controversially romantic lyrics, Wendy Shay started her musical career with Rufftown Records with a banger. She needs to be motivated to continue her “Ebony Replacement” tag. Thunder Fire by Shatta Wale and SM Millitantz was also huge, but it can’t outshine Uber Driver. If Uber Driver fails to save Wendy Shay, then Article Wan Ft Patapaa – That Thing, will win the award. I never downloaded that track but I loved it. It was played everywhere; so I didn’t miss a minute of it.
The rest of the nominations in this category are: King Promise Ft Wizkid – Tokyo, Guilty Beatz – Akwaaba, Kwesi Arthur – Don’t Keep Me Waiting, MzVee – Come and See My Moda, Dj Smith – Yenkor Ft Kwesi Arthur. Sadly, we don’t think any of these songs can win the award.
Hip-Hop Song of the Year
This is where Kwesi Arthur will win an award with his good rap song, Anthem. Competition in this category is not competitive at all. However, big threats to Anthem will be Medikal’s How Much and Sarkodie’s Bii Ba. But still, Kwesi Arthur will take it. The other nominees are Joey B –Stables, Kojo Cue – Wole, R2bees – Boys Kasa.
Reggae Dancehall Song of the Year
We know what you are thinking! Top skanka, right? Oh no please, StoneBwoy’s Top Skanka cannot beat Shatta Wale’s viral and controversial Gringo track. Gringo was well promoted (hyped) song. We heard it before it was even released with its appealing but expensive visuals. The song got the bad girls twerking dangerously to its Jamaican-styled riddim. Even though the song was highly criticized for its lyrical “emptiness”, it will win an award (If not dancehall song of the year, it would get best video award).
Tamale-based musician, Maccasio’s Dagomba Girl is the closest competitor of Gringo. Tamale guys like to vote massively to support their own (like they did for Fancy Gadam). So Maccasio might win a surprise award with his great song which features R2bees.
As for Samini’s Obaa, he relied on his past glories and tried to refabricate My Own, but it didn’t work for him. I downloaded Obaa more than 4 months ago, I only played it 1 – 3 times, it isn’t any serious song.
Gospel Song of the Year
Unfortunately, we are not very good at listening to gospel tracks but we can say that Bobolebobo by I. K Aning took over the country. He has a good chance to win that award. The following are the rest of the nominations.
Joe Mettle – My Everything, KODA – Hossana, Joyce Blessing – I Swerve You, Obaapa Christy- W’asue Me
Gospel Artist of the Year
We are also clueless about the winner, but we would have loved to choose I. K Aning, but his Bobolebobo couldn’t earn him a nomination here. Wait! Could that mean we were wrong for predicting him as the winner? Well, please predict for us. Here are the names:
Joyce Blessing, KODA, Obaapa Christy, Akesse Brempong, Diana Hamilton, Akesse Brempong, Joe Metttle
Highlife Artist of the Year
We are 100% sure that Kuami Eugene will take home this award. The Rockstar has an unmatched music potential. He released big hits such as Wish Me Well, Walaahi, Odo, No one, My Time, Akua Sika etc. His talent and hard work must be appreciated.
King Promise and KiDi performed almost equally. KiDi produced bangers such as Thunder and Adiepena. Comparatively his few hit songs can’t overshadow Eugene’s countless hits. On King Promise, his Abena song was good (My girlfriend likes it a lot). His CCTV song featuring Mugeez was hot; it still is. As for his Tokyo track Ft Wizkid, it is just a normal song.
The other nominees are Akaboah and Adina. But am sorry, trust me, they will not get anywhere
Songwriter of the Year
This is where King Promises luck will shine. The lyrics of his CCTV song are touching. That song should have even been nominated under gospel category. But hey! Stonebwoy’s Tomorrow is also full of content. If King Promise fails, Stonebwoy takes it.
The other nominees are: Fuse ODG –Bra Fie, Teephlow – Forgive, Trigmatic – Where we Dey Go. Akwaboah – Hye Me Bo. None of these guys will win that title.
Record of the Year
Stonbewoy is sure to take home this award with his Tomorrow. This is because of the weak competitors he is facing.
See the list: Fuse ODG – Bra Fie, Akwaboah – Hye Me Bo, Okyeame Kwame – Made in Ghana, Trigmatic – Where We Dey Go
Best Video of the Year
It’s going to be Gringo, No Doubt. Shatta Wale’s best music video so far, is Gringo. It was expensively shot by an experienced Director Sesan.
The other nominees are Joey B –Stables, Kojo Cue & Shaker – Up and Awake, Kirani Ayat – Guda, Fuse ODG – Bra Fie, Sarkodie – Biibi Ba, MzVee – Come and See My Moda
Hiplife/Hiphop Artist of the Year
Medikal deserves this award. Despite suffering disappointments last year with Sister Derby (when he failed to win a single award out of his 5 nominations), he has again proven that he has some amount rapping talent. He released big hits such as Adwee Ba, How Much, Ayekoo, Talk to Am, Wrowroho (Sister Akose). The streets danced to his tunes. Medikal’s closest competitor is Kwesi Arthur. He was very musically successful in his rap. Arthur showcased great songs such as Woara, Don’t Keep Me Waiting, Anthem, African Girl etc. It seems Arthur might beat Medikal, but I will still go for Medikal. yOU know why? Medikal gave us danceable songs.
Sadly (but not surprisingly), Patapaa failed to live up to his one corner expectations. Apart from his successful features with other artists, he did nothing meaningful on his own. The one corner legacy is slowly fading away. He needs to sit up; we don’t want him to vanish from thin air; it is too early.
The other nominees are Sarkodie, R2bees, La Meme Gang
Male Vocalist of the Year
It’s KiDi; he has a great voice, even though he sometimes over-do it. Haha! King Promise is his rival in this category. He sings well
The others are Akwaboah and Luigi Maclean
Female Vocalist of the Year
We choose Mzvee. The rest are eShun, Efya, Cina Soul, Adina
Group of the Year
R2bees will win. The rest are DopeNation, Lame Gang, bethel Revival Choir
Rapper of the Year
We still go for our Medikal. The others are M.anifest, Teephlow, Sarkodie, Obibini
Best Collaboration of the Year
It’s hard to choose; very stiff competition. But it’s going to be Yaa Pono Ft Stonebwoy – Master. If Pono fails, Stonebwoy’s Kpoo Keke is next.
The others are Mzvee Ft Yemi Alade – Come See My Moda, Sarkodie Ft King Promise – Can’t Let You Go, Adina Ft Kuami Eugene – Killing Me Softly, King Promise Ft Mugeez – CCTV, Guilty Beat – Akwaaba, Dj Vyrusky Ft Kuami Eugene – Never Carry Last
African Artist of the Year
Davido wins it. The others are Wizkid, Mr. Eazi, Burna Boy, Sauti Soul, Cassper Nyovest
Best New Artist of the Year
It is already clear; Sexy Wendy Shay is the new talent in town. Kelvyn Boy and Eddie Khae are equally good, but they don’t have enough songs to deserve that title. Wendy worked harder. Always releasing good songs. The other nominees are Quamina MP, La Meme Gang, DopeNation
Album of the Year
We think it’s going to be sm4lyf. Shatta Wale’s Reign album was well hyped. The other nominations are Wendy Shay – Shay on You, Kuami Eugene- Rockstar,, Diana Hamiltton- I Belive, Samini – Untamed
NB: I never heard any song from Samini’s album. Haha! Where and When did he even launch it?
Samini should forget; its either Wale or Eugene’s album that will win.
Vodafone Most Popular Song of the Year
Tough competition here! We therefore pick out Bobolebobo by I. K Aning or Eddi Khae’s Do the Dance.
The others are Wish Me Well, My Level, Kpoo Keke, CCTV, Can’t Let You Go, Obiaa Wone Master, Akwaaba, Come and See My Moda, Woara, Thunder-KiDi
Best African Collaboration
It’s obvious that Guilty Beatz’s Akwaaba Ft Patapaa_Mr.Eazi_Pappy Kojo will top all.
The others are Shatta Wale Ft Olamide – Wonders, MzVee Ft Yemi Alade – My Moda, Patoranking Ft Sarkodie – My Girl, Stonebwoy Ft Cassper – Wame.
Producer of the Year.
We can’t predict, but here are the nominations: Kuami Eugene, DDT, Kaywa, MOG Beats, Killbeats
Instrumentalist of the Year
We can’t tell the winner. Guess from this list: Unda Beats, Mizter Okyere, Enoch Owuraku, Emmanuel Bludo.
THE END! THE END
