In a significant victory against insurgency and banditry, troops from the Nigerian Army’s 144 Battalion have successfully rescued 25 hostages who were held captive by Boko Haram terrorists across Borno and contiguous states.
Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu, the Director of Army Public Relations, made the announcement on Monday, underscoring the recent successes of the military’s operations.
The rescue missions were carried out in collaboration with a Hybrid Force, combining efforts to ensure the safe extrication of hostages from the clutches of terror.
A daring clearance operation in Gobara village, located within Borno state’s Gwoza Local Government Area, led to the liberation of 14 hostages, including six women and eight children.
This operation, executed on Saturday, August 26, 2023, demonstrated the commitment and efficiency of the troops.
Continuing their relentless pursuit of Boko Haram insurgents, troops of the 82 Task Force Battalion, together with the Hybrid Force, executed a raid on a Boko Haram enclave in Gava Village of the same Gwoza Local Government Area on Sunday, August 27, 2023. This operation yielded the rescue of 11 civilians, who are now under the protective care of the military.
In another notable turn of events, seven members of a Boko Haram terrorist family voluntarily surrendered to troops of the 81 Division Task Force Battalion in Dikwa Local Government Area.
The family consisted of three adults and four children, offering hope that the tide may be turning against the extremist group.
Meanwhile, the troops are not only focusing on insurgency; they are also actively engaged in combating banditry.
In an anti-banditry operation conducted on August 27, 2023, in Kwana Shehu Village of Birnin Gwari Local Government Area in Kaduna State, soldiers from the 2 Battalion, Nigerian Army, acted on credible intelligence.
The outcome was the neutralization of a criminal and the liberation of four kidnap victims, who have since been joyously reunited with their families.
The Director of Army Public Relations called on the public to support the troops by providing credible information to further enhance their ongoing operations across the nation.
The recent successes serve as a testament to the resilience and determination of the Nigerian Army in its pursuit of peace and security.
