Tensions Soar as NPP Summons Agyapong for Verbal Attack on President and Vice President
In a surprising turn of events, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has announced its intention to summon flagbearer aspirant Kennedy Agyapong before the disciplinary committee following threats and accusations he directed towards President Akufo-Addo and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia during the recent Special Delegates Conference.
The threat-laden remarks were captured in a widely circulated video and have sparked controversy within the party and the political landscape.
The video showcases Mr. Agyapong, who also serves as the Assin Central Member of Parliament, vehemently expressing his anger over alleged attacks on his agents.
In the video, he can be heard declaring, “President Akufo-Addo, I will give you a showdown in this country, I swear to God. Vice President, I will give you a showdown for chasing my agent away. I swear to God. You will hear what will happen here. I swear to God, I will challenge President Akufo-Addo big time.”
Subsequent investigations have revealed that Agyapong made these statements during a radio interview, which adds a layer of complexity to the situation.
The NPP’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, issued a statement on Sunday, disclosing the party’s decision to summon not only Agyapong but also four other individuals for alleged misconduct.
The statement read, “Certain individuals namely: Mr. Raphael Patrick Sarfo, Mr. Charles Dokyi Yaw-Addo, Mr. Musa Sulemana, and Mr. Hopeson Yaovi Adorye will be referred to the Party’s Disciplinary Committee.
This is a direct response to evidence, including video and photographic materials, which suggests potential violations of the provisions outlined in the Party’s Constitution and potential misconduct.”
Emphasis was laid on the fact that Mr. Kennedy Ohene Agyapong would also be summoned before the Disciplinary Committee to provide explanations and further details regarding the accusations and threats he made against certain personalities in the viral video.
The situation highlights the ongoing internal dynamics of the NPP and the extent to which political tensions can escalate within party ranks.
As party members await the proceedings of the Disciplinary Committee, the incident serves as a reminder of the challenges that political parties often face in managing internal disagreements and maintaining a unified front.
