Senegal thrash Algeria to reach AFCON finals

Senegal have secured their spot at the 2019 AFCON finals after emerging victorious against Tunisia.

Senegal reached their second Africa Cup of Nations final with an extra-time victory over Tunisia.

Both sides had penalties saved in normal time before Tunisia defender Dylan Bronn inadvertently headed the only goal of the game into his own net.

Mouez Hassen tipped Sadio Mane’s free-kick onto Bronn’s head as Senegal – who face Algeria or Nigeria – moved a step closer to their first Afcon title.

2020 CHAN qualifier: Black Stars B fail to qualify for third straight CHAN tournament

Ghana missed on qualification to the 2020 African Nations Championship on Sunday after drawing 0-0 with Burkina Faso in the final round qualifier.

The result meant the Black Stars B got eliminated 1-0 on aggregate after suffering defeat at home in the first leg tie at the Baba Yara Stadium.

The Local Black Stars beat the Stallions 4-1 on penalties two weeks ago en route to reaching the final of the 2019 WAFU Cup of Nations in Senegal.

But Maxwell Konadu and his charges could not replicate that feat and got knocked out of the competition.

Since losing the 2014 finals in South Africa, Ghana have now failed to qualify for the last two tournaments played in Rwanda (2016) and Morocco (2018).

Hearts beat Olympics on penalties to win 2019 Homowo Cup

Accra Hearts of Oak prevailed on penalties to beat city rivals, Great Olympics, to win the 2019 Homowo Cup played at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday.

The teams were playing in the second leg of the match after last week’s goalless first leg and a winner needed to be found.

Hearts started well and went close in the 10th and 15th minutes of the first half with attempts from Emmanuel Mintah and Kofi Kordzi but they could not find the net until the 70th minute.

Mitchelle Sarpong scored for Hearts but two minutes later, Olympics were back in the game with a goal from Iddrisu Saler.
