Sancho Scores As Manchester United Battles Back To Tie With Leeds
Manchester United rallied from a two-goal deficit to snag a point in a thrilling Roses match thanks to the combined efforts of Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho, preventing managerless Leeds from achieving a rare Old Trafford victory.
After Wilfried Gnonto had given Leeds the lead in the opening minute, Raphael Varane put Leeds two up when he diverted Crysencio Summerville’s cut-back into his own net. As a result, the hosts appeared to be gone.
However, Rashford cut the margin in half by heading in an inviting cross from Diogo Dalot, and Sancho, who had only recently returned to first-team action after overcoming physical and mental problems, scored his first Premier League goal since September by driving home from 10 yards after Luke Shaw’s initial shot had been blocked.
Varane forced a superb save from Illan Meslier as Manchester United searched for a goal to add to their 13-game home winning streak.
Given that Brenden Aaronson hit the post in between the two goals scored by the hosts, anything less than a point would have been extremely unfair to Leeds.
Although after this excellent game, the Elland Road rematch in four days will be something to look forward to.
Meanwhile, the result moves them ahead of West Ham into 16th position and out of the relegation zone by one point.
