Road accidents: drivers transport eggs more carefully than humans-says Ghanaian abroad
A Ghanaian based in Germany, Bigscout Nana Prempeh says most commercial drivers in Ghana would drive carefully when transporting crate of eggs than passengers.
According to him, he cannot fathom why commercial drivers wouldn’t treat human lives same as they do when moving eggs from place to place, if they truly value the lives of passengers.
“It’s funny but sad that some commercial drivers value eggs more than human life. Have we asked ourselves why a driver transporting crates of eggs from Tema to Tumu, will drive with much care, caution and professionalism, all in bid to protect them from breaking?
“Why don’t we apply the same tact and caution when transporting humans?” he asked.
Scores of passengers on two huge buses, one, a VVIP bus and the other, an old bus with registration numbers GT 5694 – 18 and GT 3916 – 17 respectively, perished in a ghastly head-on collision that happened on the Techiman-Kintampo road around 4 a.m. on Friday, March 22 at Ampomakrom within the Pamdu Electoral Area of the Bono East region.
The Central Region crash involved a Metro Mass Transit bus with registration number AS 2951 – 10, travelling from Accra to Diaso, and a Yutong bus with registration number GN 4368 – 14, travelling in the opposite direction.
Reacting to this, Mr Prempeh said all these accidents could be curbed if Ghanaians are serious about it.
“Is this scenario not enough for us to know, we don’t value precious lives? Why should we choose 57 crates of eggs over 57 precious lives? When I say we are the architects of our own woes, amanfo) bi nom ntease3! [some people don’t understand] Let’s stop choosing eggs over human lives. A word to the wise is not in prophecies,” he concluded.
