MTN Leadership Gathering: Selorm Adadevoh Wins Big

Selorm Adadevoh, CEO of MTN Ghana, was named MTN CEO of the Year at the MTN Leadership Gathering conference held in Johannesburg, South Africa, this year.

The Best Environmental Sustainable Governance (ESG) Award and the Best Rural Telephony Project were both won by MTN Ghana.

450 senior executives from MTN operations throughout the continent attended the award ceremony, which was led by MTN Group President and CEO Ralph Mupita and honored operating companies and MTNers who had achieved Ambition 2025 targets in 2022.

The two-day conference brought together MTN executives from all over the continent, and it serves as an annual gathering that equips them with the information and skills they need to lead effectively and motivate their staff.

The conference, with the topic “Leading through Principles,” was also intended to reaffirm MTN’s values, what the company stands for, and how its leaders and team members form the company’s culture.

Selorm Adadevoh’s selection as the MTN group’s CEO of the year was not unexpected because, under his direction, MTN Ghana made considerable strides toward realizing the Group’s Ambition 2025 plan while facing some legislative restrictions because of its significant market power (SMP) position.

The industry regulator has put in place a variety of measures since MTN Ghana was designated SMP in June 2020 in an effort to “address the market imbalance.”

The other telecoms, which are not subject to regulatory restrictions, continue to lose consumers and market share.

However, under the effective leadership of Selorm Adadevoh, MTN has been gaining more customers and market share on a monthly basis.

For instance, MTN Ghana recently purchased and released a new number block beginning with 053, but its rivals, who are receiving assistance to catch up, are still in the dark due to SMP regulatory restrictions.

In fact, Selorm oversaw the MTN Ghana team’s preparation of more than 1,300 cell sites nationwide for the debut of 5G back in 2021.

Because of the regulator’s unwillingness to issue them a license due to its SMP status, MTN was prepared to deploy 5G in 2022.

Under Selorm’s direction, MTN seems to have fully capitalized on its SMP position in order to propel the entire ecosystem forward with its network as a service component of the 2025 agenda.

In the meantime, MTN is guiding a number of start-ups in Ghana down the path of growth to generate shared value in the ecosystem with the introduction of its Ayoba Super App and the API marketplace known as Chenosis.

Ralph Mupita, Group President and CEO, referred to Selorm’s leadership and the tangible outcomes it produces for MTN Ghana and the Group as the “jewel in the MTN Group crown.”
