Manchester United Loses to Manchester City

Indeed, nothing good lasts forever. Coach Ole Gunnar’s Red Devils continue to suffer defeat after defeat, since their unimpressive victory against Watford. What looked promising to United in the first half of the game, completely took a different dimension when they returned to the pitch after the 15-minutes break. As rightly predicted by Pep Guardiola, Manchester City completely dominated the two halves of the game.

Manchester United misused a lot of their goal chances in the first half. Even though, United was out-possessed by ManCity, they had chances to please Liverpool.  But Rashford, Lingard, Pogba and other United players couldn’t convert their chances. It appears Manchester United have exhausted all their winning opportunities. Just like their Champions League match against Barcelona, Manchester United started well, but ended badly.

After a goalless first half, Pep Guardiola’s agile players pressed hard on the ailing Devils. This allowed Silva to take a good shot at the United goal post. The deformed United goalkeeper, De Gea couldn’t pull a save at the fast-moving ball which was skillfully directed towards the left corner of the post.

As the second half progressed, Manchester United increased their attack to fight for an equalizer to the ManCity goal. Unfortunately, United still refused to utilize their chances. With Paul Pogba shooting a close range free kick like a baby, United missed another chance to score. Lingard also failed to make use of a good pass which could he could have netted the post with. Not even Rumelu Lukaku’s 70th minute entry to the game could change the situation.

As Manchester United kept misusing chances, Manchester City striker Leroy Sane (who was substituted lately), scored their second goal by dribbling past United defenders and scoring De Gea as if he (De Gea) was a statue.

The big question is why Ole Gunnar’s permanent appointment as Manchester United Manager is doing more harm than good? After winning many EPL matches after he was placed as an interim boss, Ole Gunnar’s recent performance isn’t impressive. He has not succeeded in defending his full appointment as a manager.

For soccer analysts like myself (Bob Bright) and Samuel Kwatah Teye, we have already started predicting doom for Ole Gunnar’s reign as Manchester United coach. According to Samuel Kwatah, Manchester United players tried to prove Jose Mourinho wrong by pretending to be good players under Solskjaer management. Unfortunately, they couldn’t keep their pretense for a  long ime, hence their recent poor performance. Maybe Jose Mourinho’s sacking was a big mistake.

It is as if Solksjaer took his men to the top, only to bring them down at the crucial moment when Manchester United is badly in need of wins to help them qualify for next season’s Champion’s League. With their current position at number 6 on the table, Manchester United now has the lowest probability of being among the top 4. This is irrespective of the fact that; Arsenal is also losing with them.
