The Porto left-back will be flying to Manchester on Sunday night ahead of a medical with the club on Monday.
United felt their chances of agreeing a deal for the 27-year-old were fading after they had a £15.4million offer rejected by the Portuguese champions, who were holding out for £22.5million.
Telles was due to fly to Sao Paulo on Sunday ahead of Brazil’s World Cup qualifiers against Bolivia and Peru when news of the deal came through, and will now board a private jet from Porto Airport to Manchester.

The two clubs have been in talks over the left-back for a while, but failing to reach an agreement over the fee with United’s first bid falling far below Porto’s asking price.
The deal is worth €15m plus €2m in add-ons, with an agreement in principle for a four-year contract with an option for an additional year.
It is believed the 27-year-old is wanted to bring competition to Luke Shaw at left-back while Brandon Williams, who has been deputizing, is right footed and can provide back-up for Aaron Wan-Bissaka at right-back.
