Man City Take Control Against Bayern In Champions League Showdown!
Manchester City took a huge step towards the semi-finals of the Champions League with a stunning display against Bayern Munich at the Etihad Stadium.
The Premier League champions dominated the game from start to finish, with an all-round team performance that left the German giants chasing shadows.
City took the lead midway through the first half thanks to a spectacular strike from Rodri. The Spanish midfielder curled a left-footed shot into the top corner of the net, leaving Bayern keeper Yann Sommer with no chance.
The goal was a deserved reward for City’s early dominance, with Pep Guardiola’s side looking comfortable in possession and threatening on the break.
Bayern had chances of their own, with former City forward Leroy Sane forcing a good save from Ederson early in the second half.
But it was City who looked the more dangerous side throughout, with Jack Grealish causing problems for the Bayern defence with his direct running and incisive passing.
City doubled their lead with 20 minutes left on the clock, as Bernardo Silva headed home from a perfect cross by Erling Haaland.
The Norwegian striker had been relatively quiet until that point, but his contribution to City’s second goal was a reminder of his quality.
Haaland himself got on the scoresheet just six minutes later, finishing off a move that started with a John Stones header.
The 20-year-old’s goal was his 45th of the season in all competitions, making him the highest scorer in a single campaign since the Premier League began 30 years ago.
Bayern will now have it all to do in the second leg at the Allianz Arena, with City looking in control of the tie.
The German champions will need to produce something special to overturn the deficit and reach the semi-finals, but on the evidence of this performance, it looks like City will take some stopping.
