Let Ofori-Atta Go: ACEPA Boss Informs Akufo-Addo
According to Dr. Rahseed Draman, Executive Director of the Africa Centre for Parliamentary Affairs (ACEPA), President Nana Addo Dakwa Akufo-Addo should allow the Finance Minister to resign after hearing the complaints made by MPs in his own party.
Not long ago, certain members of the majority party in parliament demanded the dismissal of the finance minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, and the minister of state for finance, Charles Adu Boahen, citing the current state of the economy.
But they complied with the President’s request to let the Finance Minister remain in office so that the talks with the International Monetary Fund could be concluded (IMF).
On Monday, November 7, Dr. Draman discussed this issue on the New Day show with Johnnie Hughes on TV3. He said that because of the budget reading if the Finance Minister leaves, it would be a problem, and if he stays, it will cause another difficulty.
Mr. Draman stated as follows:
“The president should listen to his caucus and the minister should do the honorable. The budget is going to be read, If he goes there is problem, if he doesn’t, there is problem but the cost will be less if he does go.”
Moreover, Dr. Draman added that the Minority in Parliament cannot escape responsibility for the economic troubles that have been laid at Mr. Ofori-doorstep. Atta’s
He claimed that certain members of the Minority who had the chance to vote against the Finance Minister’s nomination during the appointments committee’s review actually did so.
This remark comes at a time when opposition MPs in Parliament have filed a motion to remove the Finance Minister from office due to the country’s economic woes.
