Kylian Mbappé To The Rescue As PSG Beat RC Strasbourg 2-1

Just ten days after experiencing heartbreak in the World Cup final, Kylian Mbappé saved Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday by scoring a 94th-minute penalty to help his team defeat RC Strasbourg 2-1 in Ligue 1.

Mbappé didn’t appear to experience any negative effects in his first encounter for PSG after the World Cup, despite playing against Argentina and scoring a hat-trick in that game’s championship match of Qatar 2022.

The 24-year-old took the opportunity to convert the game-winning penalty shot in the 96th minute, which was almost the final kick of the contest.

Marquinhos had given PSG the lead early on, but the defender later unintentionally scored an own goal.

Meanwhile, Messi has not yet returned from celebrating his World Cup victory in Argentina, so Mbappé successfully converted the penalty to give PSG an eight-point lead in Ligue 1.

In light of this, Neymar Jr. was spared embarrassment by Mbappé’s score after the Brazilian was dismissed earlier in the game in embarrassing circumstances.

In less than a minute, Neymar received two bookings, the second for diving into the box against Strasbourg.

Despite the defender not making contact with him, the 30-year-old Brazilian international fell to the ground as he had done before in the game.

Mbappe continues on

Just over a week after perhaps the biggest setback of his career, Mbappé was back winning games for PSG, which was a credit to his mentality.

Despite Mbappé’s heroics at the Lusail Stadium, France was defeated by Argentina in what is perhaps the best World Cup final in history.

Thus, the superstar is eager to go through the rest of the season after being warmly welcomed back by the crowd on Wednesday at the Parc de Princes.

“It makes you feel good. I thank the fans,” he told PSG TV.

“When you come back from a situation like what I went through at the World Cup, it’s always heartwarming to know that you’ve come home and it really makes you happy.”

Meanwhile, Messi is not anticipated to make his way back until after PSG’s Sunday league encounter against Lens.
