French Airport Strike Alert: Up to 30% of Flights to be Cancelled!

French airports are set to cancel up to 30% of flights on March 7-8, 2023, due to strike action by air traffic controllers.

The strike is expected to affect several major airports in France, including Paris-Orly, Paris-Charles de Gaulle, Lyon, Marseille, and Nice.

The strike is being organized by the French air traffic controllers’ union, which is protesting against proposed changes to their working conditions. The union claims that the proposed changes would lead to increased workload and fatigue, which would compromise air safety.

The strike is expected to cause significant disruptions to air travel in France, with many passengers likely to experience delays and cancellations. The affected airlines have already started to inform their passengers about the strike and advised them to check the status of their flights before traveling to the airport.

To that effect, the French Directorate General of Civil Aviation has advised passengers to contact their airlines for information about flight cancellations and delays. The organization has also called on the air traffic controllers’ union to call off the strike, citing the potential harm it could cause to the country’s economy and tourism industry.

The strike is the latest in a series of industrial actions that have affected air travel in France in recent years. In 2018, Air France workers went on strike, leading to the cancellation of around 30% of the airline’s flights. In 2019, French air traffic controllers went on strike, causing significant disruptions to air travel across Europe.

The French government has been criticized for its handling of industrial action in the aviation sector. Critics argue that the government needs to take a more proactive approach to resolve disputes between airlines and their workers to avoid frequent disruptions to air travel.
