Former Ghanaian Footballer Urges National Team To Recall Afena-Gyan (See Details)

Former Ghanaian international footballer, Awudu Issaka, has urged the Ghanaian national team to recall Felix Afena-Gyan to the Black Stars squad.

Issaka believes that the young striker’s skills are enough to earn him a place in the team and that he has a comparative advantage over his competitors in the squad.

Afena-Gyan broke into the senior national team last year when former coach Otto Addo invited him to play in Ghana’s World Cup playoff matches against Nigeria, as well as subsequent competitive fixtures in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

However, he was not included in the team’s final 26-man squad for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar following his move to Serie A side Cremonese from AS Roma.

Furthermore, the striker was also left out of the new Black Stars coach Chris Hughton’s squad for the team’s third and fourth 2023 AFCON qualifying matches against Angola.

However, Issaka believes that Afena-Gyan should be given another chance to prove himself in the team, as he has qualities that other strikers in the squad lack.

Issaka stated in an interview with Angel TV, “Afena-Gyan should be recalled to the Black Stars because he possesses some qualities that the current strikers lack.”

Despite missing out on the Black Stars squad, Afena-Gyan chose not to join Ghana’s U-23 side, the Black Meteors, in their quest for AFCON qualification.

Instead, he has been working hard with his fitness coach to be in good shape for future competitions.

Afena-Gyan will be hoping to get some minutes on the pitch when Cremonese hosts Atalanta on Saturday.

The young striker has the potential to be a star for the Black Stars, and with Issaka’s endorsement, his chances of being called up to the squad may increase.

It remains to be seen whether Chris Hughton will take Issaka’s advice and recall Afena-Gyan to the national team.
