Comedian Steve Harvey lands in Ghana for Year of Return

The Year of Return, an initiative aimed at marking 400 years since the first black slaves landed in Jamestown Virginia is taking off like fire.

Already, the initiative that urges Africans in the diaspora to come back home, has seen an array of celebrities make their way into Ghana to explore, learn and appreciate their roots.

American comedian and television host, Steve Harvey, has joined the array of African American diasporan who have visited to learn more about their roots to slavery.

The Minister of Tourism, Babara Oteng Gyasi and the Year of Tourism committee met up with the comedian at the W.E.B DuBois Centre in Cantonments, Accra.

Steve Harvey was greeted by Mrs Oteng Gyasi who disclosed she was ecstatic to have the actor visit the country.

The comedian is in town with his family to visit the various tourist sites including the castles where slaves were kept, learn more about Ghanaian music and also about the African roots.

Steve Harvey is not the only celebrity from the United States to have come to Ghana.

Actor Boris Johnson, in late 2018, along with some of his friends from Hollywood, came to the country to spend Christmas.

The team included Nicole Ari Parker, Diggy Simmons, Micheal Jai White, Anthony Anderson (of Blackish), Rosario Dawson, Jidenna, Cynthia Bailey, Bozoma Saint John and many others

They explored the castles, markets, traditions, culture. In their adventures and quest to learn more about traditions, Michael Jai White got enstooled as ‘Odupong’ of Akwamu Traditional Area by the Akwamuhene Odeneho Kwafo Akoto III – Akwamumanhene.

Also, in honour of the celebrations, the committee organised a music festival which saw sensational artiste Deborah Cox, Ernie Smith, Irvin Mayfield and reggae band Third World coming to the country to perform and explore the music, art and culture.

After tracing his roots to Gabon, ace actor Samuel L Jackson, also made his way to Ghana to shoot a documentary on slavery.

His adventures in the country included visiting local markets like Makola, fish markets in cape coast and many others to have a feel of the culture and the people.

The most talk about hilarious comedy movie “Ojors and Kabus” the home coming is set to premier on 4th October 2019 at the Global Cinemas Weija- Accra.

The much anticipated full hilarious comedy movie which features Chieftainruller Antwi as Kabus and Samuel Agyei as Ojors tells a real life story of two lovely brother who came home to bury their father but the greed for the body of the deceased created enmity between them.

Ojors coming all the way from Nigeria have planned to take the body to Nigeria because that’s where he have lived most of his life and for that matter can get the necessary support and sympathizers.

On the other hand, Kabus also from Kumasi thinks he has what it takes to bury the body in Kumasi since the people of Kumasi are naturally sympathizers when it comes to funeral. Meanwhile, their elder sister “June Born” also thinks opposite. Being the eldest and can make final decision, she also feels she has the right to bury his brother in Accra.

Due to chaos and conflicts , burying of the body has become a mystery and still remains an untold story.

We will not return any awards, our fans worked for it -Shatta Wale tells Charterhouse

Popular Reggae-Dancehall artist Charles Nii Armah Mensah Jnr. known in the showbiz circle as Shatta Wale has disclosed that he will not return the VGMA plaques to Charterhouse.

The “Kakai” hitmaker in an interview explained that he and Stonebwoy have no intention of returning the plaques they won on that night to Charterhouse.

According to Shatta Wale, they both worked so hard for the awards they won, so did their fans and will never return it.

He added that Charterhouse should forget about the awards, adding that they deserve it and will do anything to defend it.

“I Never Had The Chance To Hold My Awards So I Don’t Think I Will Be Returning Something I Didn’t Hold. Moreover, I Don’t Know Where And Who Took The Awards.

Aside that, Stonebwoy Or I will never return the plaques because it’s something the Fans worked very hard for, and so both us, i.e. Stonebwoy and I have to defend it. Charterhouse should forget it, we are not returning anything”, Shatta Wale stated.

It can be recalled that after the fracas that happened between Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy at the 20th edition of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards, the organizers asked the musicians to return the awards as a way of sanctioning them.
