Bagbin Reschedules Launch of 30th Anniversary To February 22
The 30th Anniversary Celebration of Parliamentary Democracy under the Fourth Republic has been rescheduled for Wednesday, February 22 by Speaker Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin.
Previously, it was slated to take place on Thursday, February 16, at the Justice DF Annan Auditorium in the Tower Block’s Job 600 Building.
The Speaker remarked that the choice was influenced by the suggestions of the 30th Anniversary Celebration Planning Committee in a message to the House on Tuesday.
He claimed that because the Justice DF Annan Auditorium only has room for roughly 280 people, the Committee had recommended him to move the event to the House Chamber.
That suggests the exclusion of significant Parliamentary partners and stakeholders, such as politicians, members of civil society, and representatives of business organizations.
Important stakeholders in the state include the Executive, the Bar Association, academics, security services, and student organizations.
Speaking to the House of Representatives, Speaker Bagbin remarked, “Honorable Members, given the monumental significance of this occasion, it will be unfair to exclude our esteemed partners, who, in my judgment, will be well over 300 at the launch.”
Upon further consideration, the Committee, according to him, recommended holding the event in the Chamber, which was equipped with both public and press galleries to host the majority of the invited visitors.
