On January 18, 2023, the Ghana Fencing Federation made a courtesy visit to the Minister for Youth and Sports in the conference room of the Ministry under the leadership of its president, Mr. Mohammed Mahadi.
The visit’s main goal was to introduce the newly formed Local Organising Committee (LOC) for the Fencing Cadet and Junior African Championship in Ghana, dubbed “Ghana 2023,” and to lay out the schedule of events for the event, which is scheduled to start on February 14 through to February 21 at the Trust Emporium, Bukom.
On behalf of the government, the Minister of Youth and Sports, Honorable Mustapha Ussif, welcomed the committee members to the Ministry and expressed his gratitude for their selection to serve on the committee.
The Minister gave them a guarantee of his support for holding the competition and added that it would be used to find potential for Ghana’s delegation to the 2023 African Games. The Ghana Fencing Federation’s President said that the committee has started a series of engagements to raise awareness of the competition and to ask for cooperation in making it memorable.
Meanwhile, he also expressed his gratitude to the Minister for agreeing to their request to meet, introduce the Federation/LOC leaders to him, and discuss ways to improve their activities.
