Africa Shouldn’t Be Afraid To Pursue Oil And Gas Investment: Energy Minister Urges

Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh, the energy minister, has said that Africa shouldn’t be afraid to seek investment for its oil and gas resources.

He claims that Africa makes up less than 4% of global greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and that even after burning all of its available gas, the continent will still make up less than 4%.

The National Energy Transition Framework, which was introduced by the President in Egypt during COP27, has been created to give the way to achieving net zero emissions by 2070, he remarked, reminding the crowd of this.

At the opening public lecture commemorating the University of Ghana’s 75th anniversary on the subject of “Energy Transition: Reflections on the State of Ghana’s Oil and Gas Industry,” he made the following reflections:

“I reminded everyone present that the National Energy Transition Framework, which was unveiled by H.E. the President of Egypt during COP27, outlines a strategy for reaching net zero emissions by the year 2070. This should be undertaken while promoting socioeconomic development and the efficient use of natural resources.

I went on to reiterate Ghana’s stance, which is that we should be let to utilize our natural resources to build our country and create jobs and security in the broader framework of our economic development.

I also said that because we contribute less, the African case is far more plausible.

This, in my opinion, is one more reason why we shouldn’t hesitate to seek out the necessary funding for our oil and gas resources.

I extend my heartfelt congratulations to the University of Ghana for 75 years of uninterruptedly providing our country’s men and women who have made contributions with the education of the highest caliber.
